Back Talk on the QT Street "Texting" While Philly Burns Guest Opinion - Peter Salometo
|
|
The news media reported that
Philadelphia Mayor John Street spend upwards of 14 hours camped out at the
AT&T phone store at 16th & Ranstead Sts., awaiting the arrival of
Apple's new iPhone gadget. News reports
have His Honor arriving at the location at 3:30 AM, June 29 and spending the
better part of that day waiting in line to make his purchase. (I guess the
Mayor didn't realize that Friday was a WORK DAY or what passes for work for
this mayor).
I was reminded of the old Roman
story of Nero playing his fiddle while Rome
was burning. As with Nero, Mr. Street is clueless. He
joins the other clueless one-- Dumbya, who resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington,
DC. The only solace I can take
from any of this is that Mr.
Street's tenure ends in about 6 months and Bush's
ends in about 19 months!
Fortunately, Mayor-in-Waiting,
Michael Nutter did not give His Honor a pass on this one--correctly pointing out that Mr. Street
will have to answer to the hardworking, taxpaying citizens of Philadelphia for his work day of waiting for
Apple's latest gadget.
Mr. Street's
day of waiting also occurred one day after the latest census figures showed
that Philadelphia
had slipped from fifth to sixth in population size, on the largest city list.
Do you suppose His Honor noticed? Or if it ever crossed his mind that the
policies and corruption of his Administration had anything to do with this?
